Private Newborn and Baby Checks in London
The first weeks with a new baby bring joy, exhaustion and a great many questions. Is she feeding enough? Is that jaundice or just colour? Is this rash normal? Our newborn review gives you time with a consultant paediatrician to go through all of it, without watching the clock.
Who it is for
Babies aged 0–6 weeks, typically from about two weeks after hospital discharge. If you are looking for a baby check-up after birth, this is the appointment. If you have a concern that cannot wait, call us: same-week and short-notice appointments are often available.
What the review covers
- A full newborn examination
- Weight gain and growth
- Feeding, whether breast or bottle
- Jaundice
- Colic, reflux and digestive concerns
- Skin: rashes, birthmarks, eczema
- Hip screening and early developmental checks
- Questions about hearing and vision
- Time for your questions and for reassurance
How it fits with NHS checks
The NHS newborn physical examination and the 6–8 week GP check continue as usual. Our review does not replace them. It gives you a longer, consultant-led appointment in between, or alongside, for parents who want more time or have specific worries.
Once your baby is past six weeks, our well-child checks continue through infancy and childhood.
What to bring
Your baby’s red book (personal child health record), any discharge paperwork, and a list of questions. Feeding charts or notes are helpful if you have kept them.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as the NHS 6 week baby check?
No. The NHS 6–8 week check is done by your GP. Ours is an additional, longer review with a consultant paediatrician and can take place earlier.
Will insurance cover it?
Routine newborn reviews are typically excluded as preventative care. Please check with your insurer. Self-pay is always available.
Can both parents come?
Yes, and we encourage it.
What if I am worried that my baby is unwell?
Our focus is preventative and longitudinal care, by design, so we do not provide urgent or emergency care. If your baby is unwell, has a fever, is feeding poorly or you are worried, contact your GP, NHS 111 or 999.
