The UK's child health screening gap is wider than most parents realise
In North America and mainland Europe, children receive structured health assessments at every stage of development — not just when something goes wrong. In the UK, routine screening essentially stops after age 2.
Routine Developmental Reviews
After the initial NHS checks, there are no scheduled assessments to track your child's developmental milestones through school age and adolescence.
Scheduled Blood Work
Routine blood tests that could identify early signs of conditions like anaemia, thyroid dysfunction, or vitamin deficiencies aren't part of standard UK childhood care.
Proactive Monitoring
The UK system is largely reactive — waiting until symptoms appear rather than screening to catch conditions early, when they're easier to treat.
The AAP Bright Futures programme — in London
The award-winning American Academy of Pediatrics Bright Futures programme provides a framework for preventive care and early detection across four age groups — from first breath to first day of university.
Infants
Birth to 1 year — critical foundations including growth tracking, feeding assessment, and early developmental checks.
Toddlers
1 to 3 years — language development, motor skills, behavioural screening, and immunisation review.
Preschoolers
3 to 5 years — school readiness, vision and hearing, social-emotional development, and routine blood work.
School-Age & Adolescents
5 to 18 years — comprehensive health assessments including mental health, nutritional screening, and age-appropriate guidance.
Founded by two consultant paediatricians with over 30 years of experience each
Both trained at leading institutions in Canada and the United States. Both recognised the gap. Both committed to closing it.

Well-Child Health Check
A structured preventive health assessment following the AAP Bright Futures programme. Covers developmental milestones, growth, immunisations, and routine screening — the proactive care the UK system doesn't provide.
General Paediatric Consultation
When your child is unwell and you need answers. A thorough history and examination, a clear diagnosis where possible, and a treatment plan. We commonly see persistent infections, skin conditions, abdominal pain, allergies, sleep difficulties, behavioural concerns, and growth or feeding worries.
Immunisation Review
Full review and update of immunisation records. Flexible services including the chickenpox vaccine. Bring any records and we'll ensure complete protection.
Laboratory Work
Routine blood tests assessing heart, liver, kidney function, thyroid health, vitamin levels, and diabetes screening — tailored to your child's age and needs.
Diagnostic Imaging
Chest X-rays and referrals for ultrasound, CT, or MRI scans through partner centres at Oryon and HCA when clinically indicated.
Follow-Up & Treatment Review
Review results, track progress, and adjust treatment plans. Whether following up after an initial consultation or monitoring an ongoing condition, your paediatrician stays with your child's care over time. Available face-to-face, by video, or by phone.

Dr Burmester was extremely thorough with her diagnosis, explained everything to us very clearly, and guided his recovery in a way that made us feel calm, reassured, and well supported.
Punctual, friendly, got straight to the point with her advice and took the time to answer all of my questions. I felt really reassured by Dr Burmester's expertise.
