Our child health services

Health check-up

Following a comprehensive age-appropriate medical history, the paediatrician will conduct a physical examination to review any symptoms and concerns. A full assessment presents an excellent opportunity to address any worries and allows ample time for a thorough check-up.

Immunisation review

Staying up-to-date with immunisations is crucial for your child’s health. We will address any immunisation concerns and can offer flexible services, including the chickenpox vaccine. Bring any records, and we will review and update them if necessary to ensure complete protection.

Diagnostic imaging

A chest X-ray is an imaging test to diagnose injuries and diseases affecting the chest’s lungs, heart, blood vessels, and other structures. It is a quick and painless imaging test that produces images of the structures in and around the chest. An average chest X-ray uses a small amount of radiation (0.1 mSv), equivalent to about ten days of natural background radiation. It can help identify infectious diseases such as pneumonia, asthma, and benign or malignant tumours. If clinically indicated, we can refer your child for an ultrasound, CT, or MRI scan through our partners at Oryon and HCA.

Treatment review

The Treatment Review allows you to discuss any treatments your child may be undergoing with us and ask questions in a relaxed setting.

If you have any concerns about the treatments or medications your child receives, this is an opportunity to address them.

As part of the health plan, we will inquire about any medicines or treatments your child takes. Therefore, it is essential to bring along any prescription details to gain a comprehensive understanding. This review will aid in shaping your child’s healthcare plan.

Laboratory work

Various routine tests are necessary at different stages of childhood. These routine tests help assess heart, liver, and kidney function and may identify other health irregularities. The results will be shared with you so that you can develop a health plan and consider any further testing. Standard tests include: –

General health – full blood count, calcium, iron, B12, vitamin D, lead

Heart and blood vessel health – lipid panel (cholesterol, triglycerides)

Liver health – alkaline phosphatase, AST

Infections – throat swabs (strep test), urine tests, mono test, RSV test

Kidney health – albumin, creatinine

Diabetes screening – fasting glucose, A1C

Thyroid health – TSH

Additional tests may be ordered if deemed appropriate.

Blood Tests for Children: Understanding Routine Health Checks

Ensuring your child’s well-being involves various routine blood tests at different stages of development. These blood tests are essential for assessing heart health, liver function, and kidney health and identifying potential health irregularities. Results from these blood tests will be shared with you to help develop a personalised health plan and determine if any further testing is necessary.

Standard Blood Tests for Children May Include:

  • General Health Blood Tests: To assess overall health and nutritional status, a full blood count, calcium, iron, vitamin B12, vitamin D, and lead levels are often checked.
  • Heart and Blood Vessel Health Blood Tests (Lipid Panel): This panel measures cholesterol and triglycerides to assess cardiovascular health early.
  • Liver Health Blood Tests: To evaluate liver function, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are used.
  • Kidney Health Blood Tests: Albumin and creatinine levels are essential indicators of kidney health.
  • Diabetes Screening Blood Tests: Fasting glucose and A1C tests help screen for diabetes.
  • Thyroid Health Blood Tests: Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels assess thyroid function.
  • Infection Detection Blood Tests: While some infection tests use swabs (like strep throat), others rely on blood tests, such as those for mononucleosis (mono) or respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Urine tests may also be used to detect infections.
  • Additional Blood Tests: If any irregularities are detected, further blood tests may be ordered based on your child’s individual needs.

will need to check this.

You will receive an invoice via email from Bright Futures Health or Patient Billing (our payment partners) so that you can pay by BACS or online. Please pay within 48 hours of the appointment. If you have any payment queries, please call our payments subsidiary Bright Futures Billing on 020 8163 5163 or email them on billing@brightfutures.health.

At or following your child’s appointment, your child may need specific tests (throat or skin swabs, blood tests, x-rays, audiology appointments), or you may receive treatments such as vaccinations.

Bright Futures Health requires completion of the Bright Futures Health registration form. On this form it is necessary to indicate why you want your child to see one of our doctors. This is so we can tailor your baby or child’s care prior to the appointment. We cannot confirm an appointment until the registration form details have been completed.

Bright Futures Health does not require a referral from your GP, but some insurance companies require a referral or have additional requirements – please check with your insurer.

The Bright Futures Health platform has ensured that independent paediatricians on the platform are accredited with the insurance providers listed below:-

Your insurance company may authorise an appointment even if they are not listed above, but you need to check before you attend the appointment

Before an appointment, please discuss any planned face-to-face, video conference or teleconference appointment with your insurance company, ensuring you have an up-to-date authorisation number and pre-authorisation details.

Some UK-based insurance providers do not cover our Well-Child medicals or vaccinations. As a result, we do not offer insurance covered Well-Baby or Well-Child or vaccination appointments for clients insured by these insurance providers.

These providers operate under a model where patients visit a doctor when they are unwell or have a specific problem. They typically offer a package that includes an initial appointment, simple diagnostic tests, and a follow-up appointment. We are happy to continue seeing clients insured by insurance providers who operate under this model. However, if your child requires multiple follow-up appointments or additional high-cost diagnostic tests we need new authorisation or written confirmation that your insurer will cover your child’s care beyond the first follow-up appointment. This prevents you from finding yourself liable for any unexpected invoices for uncovered care.

We can offer Well-Child and vaccination appointments on a self-pay basis for clients with insurance policies from insurance providers who do not cover these appointments.

For all insured clients, please verify regularly with your insurance provider that any services provided by Bright Futures Health are authorised, especially if your child’s care extends beyond the standard model after the first follow-up appointment. If your insurer does not reimburse Bright Futures Health for our services, you will be responsible for the full self-pay fee.

Most insurers use an excess system so it is likely that your insurer will expect you to pay a contribution to the initial appointment. They will ask Bright Futures Billing to collect this on their behalf. We require this to be paid before a follow up appointment can be confirmed.

All Bright Futures Health billing via insurance companies is looked after by Bright Futures Billing (our payments subsidiary), who will invoice your insurance company directly, and advise you of any excess payments accordingly.

If you have any payment queries, please call Patient Billing on 020 8163 5163 or billing@brightfutures.health. Please do not contact our enquiries email with billing queries.

If you have further questions about payment, please do not hesitate to contact Bright Futures Health by email on billing@brightfutures.health or telephone 020 8163 5163. Leave a message and you will be called back, the office is open on weekdays 10-3. Out of hours we can send you a booking link or take a message.
